A Crypto Job Offer That Turned Out to Be a Trap
With the crypto industry booming, job opportunities in the field are everywhere. However, not all offers are genuine, as I found out when I nearly became a victim of a scam disguised as a job offer.I received an email from someone claiming to be a recruiter for a blockchain startup. They said my skills matched their requirements and invited me to apply for a remote position. The email was well-written, and the company’s website looked professional, so I decided to proceed.
The “recruiter” quickly scheduled an interview over video chat. During the interview, they talked about the company’s vision and explained my role in helping them manage crypto transactions. They mentioned that I would need to set up a wallet to handle company funds and asked me to provide my wallet address and personal details for verification.
Before providing any information, I decided to verify the company’s legitimacy. A quick search revealed that the website was newly created and that the company didn’t exist. Others had reported similar scams, where victims were asked to use their wallets for illegal activities or had their personal information stolen.
This experience taught me to thoroughly vet any job offer, especially in the crypto space. If a company asks for sensitive information or wallet access during the hiring process, it’s a major red flag. Always research potential employers and trust your instincts if something feels off.
