A recent complaint highlights a sophisticated scam involving a fraudulent investment platform, AssetAFX, and an individual named Joshua Mayo. The victim was coerced into making multiple payments under the guise of investment and profit retrieval. Here are the details:
A victim from NC, USA (28208) was introduced to AssetAFX, where they deposited $3500. The platform falsely promised significant profits, claiming an altercation arose when the customer service representative (CSR) mishandled the funds. The victim was pressured to invest more money to allegedly increase profits. The website was subsequently taken down, and the victim contacted Joshua Mayo, who appeared sincere and trustworthy. Mayo convinced the victim to send an additional $500 in cryptocurrency, claiming it was necessary to access the profits. He then demanded the full amount of $2100 and, eventually, $4800, which the victim could not afford. The victim lost access to the account and is now monitored by scammers.
