Crypto App That Secretly Collected My Data
I’ve always been interested in tracking my crypto portfolio, so when I came across a new app that promised advanced features and analytics, I decided to download it. The app was called “CryptoVault,” and it had glowing reviews on the app store, along with a professional website that explained its features.Once I installed the app, it asked for access to my wallet by connecting through an API. This seemed standard for portfolio trackers, so I went ahead and connected my accounts. The app immediately displayed my portfolio, and its features were impressive. But after a few days, I noticed suspicious transactions in my wallet—funds were being transferred without my knowledge.
I quickly disconnected the API and contacted my exchange, but the damage had already been done. Nearly $4,000 worth of cryptocurrency had been stolen. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the app was a scam designed to collect users’ wallet information and exploit it.
This experience was a wake-up call. I now only use portfolio trackers from established companies with strong security reputations. Never give an app access to your wallet without thorough research, and always check reviews from trusted sources before downloading.
