A user from Minnesota, USA (Zip Code: 55016) reported being approached via online chat by an individual pretending to befriend them, only to discuss lucrative cryptocurrency investments later. The scammer claimed to have insider information on profitable crypto nodes through a high-profile relative in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The victim was pressured into downloading the CoinTiger app and transferring funds into cryptocurrency for these “node trades.” After initially investing $3,000 and increasing the investment to $20,000, the victim was manipulated into taking a $35,000 loan from within the CoinTiger platform. The scammer’s tactic involved increasing balances from supposed node trades, pressuring the victim to add more money continuously. Eventually, the CoinTiger app went offline for “maintenance,” and alternative suspicious links were provided to download a purportedly new version of the app:
      1. ciontiger.org/#/download
      2. cointiger.cm.com

The victim reported losing a total of $16,000.

      Scammer Information:

      • Phone: (775) 773-6544
      • Website: CoinTiger
      • Fraudulent Links:
      • ciontiger.org/#/download
      • cointiger.cm.com
      • Telegram Group: Unknown group where the scammer appears to assist others.

The scammer used continuous high-pressure tactics and manipulation to extract money from the victim, even suggesting taking a loan to invest further. The victim’s balance was shown to increase significantly to $200,000, yet access to these funds was barred due to alleged maintenance and tax payments.
