I asked questions before investing and the answers didn’t match

I want to share something that almost turned into a loss for me, but luckily I slowed down at the right moment.

A few weeks ago someone contacted me through a messaging app and started talking about crypto trading. At first it felt like a normal conversation. No pressure, no offers. Just general discussion about the market.

After a couple of days the person mentioned a trading opportunity. According to him, a small group was using a private system that generated stable returns every week. The numbers he mentioned were not extreme, which made it sound believable.

Instead of ignoring it, I decided to ask questions.

I asked how the profits were generated.
He said it was automated trading.

I asked which exchange was used.
He gave a name I had never heard before.

I asked if I could register directly on that exchange myself.
He said access was limited and required an invitation.

    That answer made me pause.

Still, I continued the conversation. He showed me screenshots of trading results. Everything looked clean and professional. But when I looked carefully, I noticed something strange. The same profit numbers appeared in different screenshots, only slightly edited.

To test further, I asked if I could start with a very small amount and withdraw it quickly.

He agreed, but then added a condition. He said withdrawals would only be available after reaching a certain profit level. That did not make sense to me. If it is my money, I should be able to withdraw it anytime.

    At that point I stopped.

Later I searched online and found similar stories. People were allowed to deposit easily, but when they tried to withdraw, new conditions kept appearing. Some were asked to pay extra fees. Others were simply ignored.

This experience taught me something simple. You do not always need technical knowledge to avoid scams. Sometimes basic questions are enough.

If the answers are unclear, inconsistent, or restrictive, it is better to walk away.

In crypto, control over your funds matters. The moment someone else controls when you can withdraw, the risk increases significantly.
