The “Wrong Address” Scam That Cost My Friend Thousands
A friend of mine, Lisa, was making a large Bitcoin transaction for the first time. She copied and pasted the recipient’s wallet address and sent 2 BTC ($80,000 at the time).Seconds later, the transaction was confirmed—but the recipient never received the funds. When she checked, she realized that the address wasn’t the one she had copied.
Scammers had used clipboard hijacking malware, which silently replaced the real wallet address with a fraudulent one the moment she pasted it. Her funds were gone forever.
