A California resident has reported being scammed by a fraudulent cryptocurrency trading platform, evencoinss.com, after joining a WhatsApp group that promoted high-return investments. The scammers claimed that investments would be managed by experts and falsely promised 100% daily profits.
What Happened?
- The victim invested $12,000 into the platform, expecting substantial returns.
- When they attempted to withdraw their funds, they found it impossible to recover any of their money.
- The website evencoinss.com is no longer operational, suggesting the scammers have shut it down after stealing victims’ funds.
Red Flags of the Scam
- Unrealistic Returns: Any platform promising 100% daily profits is almost certainly a scam.
- Social Engineering via WhatsApp: The fraudsters lured victims through group chats, a common tactic in pig butchering scams where scammers build trust before stealing funds.
- Fake Expert Management: There is no evidence that real professionals were involved in managing funds.
- Vanishing Website: The platform has already gone offline, a clear sign of a rug pull or exit scam.
If You Were Affected:
- Do not invest more money – scammers may try to convince victims that additional deposits are needed to recover lost funds.
- Report the scam to authorities, such as the California DFPI, the FTC, and your local law enforcement.
- Avoid responding to follow-up messages – scammers often return, posing as “recovery agents” to steal even more.
- Consult a cryptocurrency investigations firm if you want to explore tracing your lost funds.
Stay Safe! If an investment sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam. Always verify platforms before investing and remain cautious of WhatsApp and Telegram investment groups.
