As a blockchain enthusiast, I’m always eager to network with like-minded professionals and stay ahead of the latest trends. So, when I received an email about a blockchain conference called Global Crypto Summit 2024, I was excited. The conference promised keynote speeches from industry leaders, panel discussions on the future of blockchain, and exclusive workshops for attendees. The website was professionally designed, featuring detailed schedules, speaker bios, and testimonials from past attendees.

The registration fee was $1,500, and early bird registrants were promised a complimentary VIP pass, which included a private dinner with speakers and access to exclusive networking events. It sounded like a golden opportunity, so I registered and paid the fee via cryptocurrency, as the organizers claimed it was their preferred payment method.

After registering, I received an email confirmation with my ticket and a link to join a private Telegram group for attendees. The group was buzzing with excitement, with participants discussing their travel plans and sharing their enthusiasm for the event. Everything seemed legitimate.

However, as the conference date approached, I noticed some red flags. The organizers stopped sending updates, and some of the speaker bios disappeared from the website. On the day of the conference, I arrived at the venue listed on my ticket only to find it completely empty. The event didn’t exist.

It turned out that the entire conference was a scam. The scammers had used fake websites, paid actors for promotional videos, and created a false sense of credibility to lure attendees into paying hefty registration fees. The Telegram group was deleted shortly after the supposed conference date, and the scammers vanished.

This experience taught me to verify the legitimacy of events before registering. Always confirm details with official sources, reach out to listed speakers to confirm their participation, and be cautious about paying for events that only accept cryptocurrency
