I Checked the “CEO” and Found Three Different Names

I was researching a crypto investment website and decided to look at the people behind it rather than the investment plans.

The About page introduced the CEO as David Morgan.

    Nothing unusual there.

Then I found an older promotional post for what appeared to be the same platform. Same photograph, but the man was introduced as Daniel Morris.

    Okay, that’s strange.

I kept searching and found the photograph again on another financial website.

    This time?

Michael Roberts — Senior Investment Consultant.

    Three names. Same face.

At that point, I wasn’t particularly interested in the promised returns anymore.

I started checking the rest of the team.

One executive photo appeared on several unrelated websites. Another profile had an impressive biography but almost no independent professional history that I could verify.

Does that prove the entire operation was fraudulent?

Not necessarily, and I wouldn’t make that accusation based only on photographs.

But if a company expects people to trust it with significant amounts of cryptocurrency, I think it’s reasonable to ask whether the people presented as its leadership actually exist in the roles claimed.

What changed my approach was this:

    Instead of searching:

    “Is XYZ Platform legitimate?”

    I started searching:

    “Who runs XYZ Platform?”

    That’s a very different investigation.

Websites can be redesigned overnight. Company descriptions can be copied. Testimonials can be manufactured.

The people supposedly responsible for handling customers’ money should be much harder to invent.

So now I spend less time admiring the homepage and more time checking who’s standing behind it.

Sometimes a face tells a completely different story once you start searching.
