I Checked the Wallet Address Before I Checked the Website

Someone recently sent me a crypto investment link and asked, “Does this look legitimate?”

Instead of opening the website first, I asked for the wallet address they had been told to use for the deposit.

    Why?

Websites can tell a very convincing story. Wallet and transaction details give me something different to examine.

The person had received the address privately from an “account manager.” What made things more interesting was that the manager had already changed it once.

    First message: “Send payment here.”

    A few hours later:

Second message: “Don’t use that address. Finance has generated a new one.”

    No explanation beyond that.

I wouldn’t automatically call changing a deposit address suspicious. There can be legitimate technical reasons for businesses to use different addresses.

But I would definitely want to understand why it changed.

    Before sending anything, I’d keep:

    → Both wallet addresses
    → The messages containing them
    → The blockchain/network requested
→ Any transaction hashes if a payment was already made
→ The username that provided the instructions

There’s another reason for keeping those details.

A website might disappear next month. The Telegram account might change its username. The company might even start operating under another name.

Your transaction record doesn’t disappear just because the marketing does.

Sometimes people spend hours analyzing logos, testimonials, and website design while overlooking the actual destination of their money.

For me, that destination deserves just as much attention.

Follow the payment details, not only the sales story.
