One Simple Question Led Me Down an Unexpected Path
It all started with one question.
“Should I send cryptocurrency to this wallet address?”
A friend asked for my opinion after receiving a payment address from someone promoting an investment opportunity.
I didn’t have an answer.
So I decided to spend a little time looking into it.
The first thing I did was open a blockchain explorer.
The wallet had hundreds of transactions.
That wasn’t unusual by itself.
Then another question came to mind.
“Where is the money going after it arrives?”
I followed several outgoing transactions.
Most of the funds were moved relatively quickly.
Again, that wasn’t enough to reach any conclusion.
So I kept looking.
The next question became even more interesting.
“Has anyone mentioned this wallet before?”
I searched the address online.
To my surprise, I found discussions on different forums.
Some people said the address had been provided during an investment conversation.
Others mentioned seeing it connected to completely different websites.
I couldn’t confirm whether those reports were related.
But seeing the same wallet appear in unrelated discussions certainly caught my attention.
That led to another question.
“Am I trying to prove something, or am I simply trying to reduce risk?”
The answer was obvious.
I wasn’t trying to accuse anyone.
I simply wanted enough information to make a careful decision.
By the end of my research, I still couldn’t identify the owner of the wallet.
Blockchain records don’t provide that kind of information.
What I did have was a better understanding of the wallet’s activity and a list of questions that still didn’t have clear answers.
For me, unanswered questions are often more important than quick answers.
If I cannot confidently explain why I’m sending funds to a particular address, I would rather wait another day than regret acting too quickly.
Sometimes the best decision isn’t based on certainty.
It’s based on recognizing when more information is needed.
