“Refund Department” Contacted Him After He Complained
The original problem was a delayed crypto withdrawal.
The user complained repeatedly and eventually told the platform he wanted his account closed.
Two days later, an email arrived.
Subject: Refund Approved
Good news, apparently.
The message said his complaint had been transferred to a separate refund department and that $4,280 was ready to be returned.
Then came an unusual instruction.
To receive the refund, he needed to create a new crypto wallet.
Not his existing wallet.
A new one.
The so-called refund agent even sent him a link and offered to guide him through the setup.
That was the first thing that made him uncomfortable.
He ignored the link and created a wallet independently instead.
When he told the agent it was ready, another requirement appeared:
“Your wallet must contain at least 300 USDT before our system can release the refund.”
Why would receiving a refund require money to already be inside the receiving wallet?
The explanation was that the blockchain needed to “recognize the wallet as active.”
That didn’t sound right.
He asked whether they could simply send a small test transaction first.
No.
He offered his original wallet instead.
No.
He asked for the refund policy showing the 300 USDT requirement.
The agent stopped answering the question and started reminding him that the refund authorization would expire soon.
At that point, he ended the conversation.
The interesting part here is how the approach changed.
Earlier, the victim was being encouraged to invest.
Now someone was promising to give his money back.
Emotionally, those are completely different situations, but both ended with the same instruction:
Send more cryptocurrency first.
If you’ve already lost money, a message saying your refund has been approved can be extremely tempting. That’s probably exactly when it’s worth slowing down.
A refund should reduce your loss, not create another one.
