The Review Was Positive… Until I Checked the Reviewer

I did something yesterday that I normally don’t bother doing.

Instead of researching the crypto platform, I researched the people reviewing it.

One review said:

“I’ve been trading here for over two years and withdrawals are always fast.”

Sounds reassuring.

I opened the reviewer’s profile.

Account created: three weeks ago.

Interesting.

Another person claimed they’d been using the platform “for years.” Their profile contained eight reviews. Every single one was for a crypto or investment service, and every review was five stars.

Then things got stranger.

I copied a sentence from one of the reviews and searched for it.

Almost identical wording appeared elsewhere under a different person’s name.

At that point, I stopped counting five-star ratings and started paying attention to the reviewers themselves.

A few things are worth looking at:

How old is the reviewer’s account?
What else have they reviewed?
Do their dates make sense?
Are several people using strangely similar wording?

None of these things individually proves that a review is fake. New users write genuine reviews too, and people sometimes use similar language.

But patterns matter.

Twenty positive reviews aren’t necessarily twenty independent opinions.

Sometimes investigating who is doing the praising tells you more than the praise itself.
